Carpet cleaning methods have been around for as long as there have been carpets. Newer methods of professional carpet cleaning have resulted in a lot of myths around carpet cleaning which prevent people from purchasing and using them.
A dirty carpet contains not only dirt and grime but is also a breeding spot for germs and diseases. To keep your house clean and your family healthy, one needs to clean the carpet regularly. Below is a list of few myths that may have kept you so far from cleaning your carpets. Here’s our effort to bust these myths so you can give your family a cleaner and healthier home.
Myth #1 – You Should Not Vacuum Carpets Too Much
Most of us believe that too much cleaning of the carpets makes it thin and lessens it life. When we see small tufts of fluff getting sucked into the vacuum cleaner, we think we are losing portions of our carpet.
However, it has been proven through research that cleaning up the carpets even thrice or four times a week does not mean that we are losing it for a large number of years. In order to maintain its cleanliness we must increase the frequency of our carpet cleaning from three or four times a month to few times a week.
Myth #2 – Professional Carpet Cleaning Shrinks Carpets
We have come a long way from the time when carpets were made up of shrinkable natural materials such as pure wool or silk on a jute base. Today, most carpets are mostly made up of nylon tied up on a synthetic base.
It is common knowledge that synthetics do not shrink even in hot water, hence there is no chance of your carpet shrinking or losing its color due to steaming or hot water extraction.
In fact, even if you have a woolen or silk carpet, it is always a better idea to call for professional help for cleaning as they will have a better idea of what to use to avoid losing color of size.
Myth #3 – Cleaning A Carpet Makes It Get Dirtier Fast
A lot of us feel that our carpets start becoming dirtier at a faster pace the moment we clean it. The real reason for this is not cleaning but dirty cleaning. If we are not careful while cleaning and remains of cleaning chemicals are left in the carpet, it will definitely attract more dirt and grime and get dirtier fast.
Thus, it is important that we clean our carpets properly and ensure that no chemical remains are left in it that may make it dirtier instead of cleaning. You may consider getting a Scotchgard coating over your carpet which will keep it neat and clean for a longer time.
It is also a good idea to buy a good quality vacuum cleaner for carpet cleaning instead of trying it yourself or getting cheap or incompetent help.
